review The Castle, Newton Mearns

THE CASTLE BEEFEATER, NEWTON MEARNS, GLASGOW

I haven't eaten at a Beefeater in years.  In fact I was surprised to discover they still existed outside my 70's pine decked, tartan curtained memories.  So finding ourselves staying overnight at the Premier Inn in Newton Mearns, we thought we would give the adjoining Castle a go.  And what a surprise it was.  Modern, funky interior at both the bar and restaurant.  The place was very busy, obviously with a local clientele as well as guests of the hotel.  We had baked camembert as a shared starter, followed by two sirloin steak mains.  Both courses were delicious and the steak was lean and cooked to tender perfection.  Wee A was happy with his nachos and steak frites from the kids' menu.  Service was excellent - nothing was too much bother.  Total with a nice bottle of Chilean Sauvignon was £53.
