CITIZEN M, GLASGOW

I've got to say I was a wee bit disappointed with our Citizen M stay. The first thing you are greeted with as you enter the building (apart from the 'Nice Shoes' welcome mat) is a burly bouncer. I've never experienced this before, but I guess it's because the funky bar area stays open late at night and attracts the late night party animals once the pubs close. Lounge areas are quirky and unusual. We tried to find a table at the bar but they were left uncleared for far too long so we took out super expensive (£10) cocktails over to the quiet lounge area.
The hotel room itself was compact, with the huge ultra comfy bed taking up the width of the room. Quilt and pillow are left on the bed for you to make yourself. There is an ipod dock and a TV on the wall above the bed. There are hundreds of free film channels, most of the adult variety. The mood lighting was a bit of a non-event as it was just a red, green, blue or purple colour change to the shower/toilet pod by the bed. This is where you have to throw your inhibitions to the wind (perhaps literally!) as the toilet and shower area is see through and has a 4 inch gap at the bottom of the door so all can be heard! There is a curtain though that can be pulled over to screen that area. When it comes to the practicalities, Citizen M reveals itself as perhaps too much style over too little substance. I'd perhaps return to this hotel if I got a midweek deal, but the £99 weekend rate we paid was too much for what we got.
